A playful homage to Bali’s vibrant spirituality, the “Niskala: Forms of the Unseen” collection was developed by French designer Pierre Charrié as part of the Artist Designer In Residence program (ADIR) initiated by CushCush Gallery in Bali, in collaboration with the French Embassy in Indonesia and the Institut Français. Seeking to establish a creative dialogue between two cultures as rich as they are different, the residency proposes a contemporary reinterpretation of Balinese culture and craftsmanship through the prism of French design.
Inspired by Bali’s rich artistic and spiritual practices, the “Niskala: Forms of the Unseen” collection refers to the Balinese belief in the existence of the “unseen world”, home of the spirits, superimposed on the human realm. Like a story in three chapters, the collection takes us on a journey to this mysterious world, where mythical creatures seem to incarnate into beautiful objects and furniture of collectible design handcrafted in collaboration with Balinese artists and artisans.
