“Dress Me Up! The Balinese Way”
a collection designed by Studio Marcel Poulain,
as part of the Artist Designer in Residence (ADIR) program,
from 4–8 September 2025 at Galerie Joseph (116 rue de Turunne), Paris.
A playful combination of furniture and textile design celebrating the Balinese way of life and architecture, Dress me up! The Balinese way was designed by the French designer duo Clémence Plumelet and Geoffrey Pascal from Studio Marcel Poulain, developed and crafted by CushCush in collaboration with Balinese artists and artisans as the culmination of the 2024 Artist Designer In Residence (ADIR), an immersive residency program initiated by CushCush Gallery in Bali. The residency opens its doors to talented French designers to propose a contemporary reinterpretation of Bali’s rich culture and craftsmanship.
Inspired by Bali’s rich traditions, the collection highlights the intimate relationship between the human body, architecture, and textiles. The centerpiece, a lounge chair, is designed to be “dressed up” with interchangeable outfits, in the same way the Balinese adorn statues, sacred objects, and themselves with ceremonial attire. Featuring poleng (checkered cloth symbolizing balance) for daily use and songket (intricate ceremonial textile) for festive occasions, the Dress Me Up! Collection honors Bali’s sacred fabrics and craftsmanship.
