{"id":1457,"date":"2021-09-21T13:23:07","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T13:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cushcushgallery.com\/ccg\/?page_id=1457"},"modified":"2022-02-11T07:53:32","modified_gmt":"2022-02-11T07:53:32","slug":"denpasar2021-risingsea","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cushcushgallery.com\/ccg\/denpasar2021-risingsea\/","title":{"rendered":"DenPasar2021 : Rising SEA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cushcushgallery.com\/ccg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Logo-Denpasar-2021-e1632319400357.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1463\" width=\"200\" height=\"155\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dynamically\nstructured with creative and innovative themes since 2017, DenPasar Art+Design\n(DPS) program presented by CushCush Gallery is advancing every year with its\nshift in direction since 2019,&nbsp; putting\nemphasis on meaningful capacity building activities to respond to missing links\nin the local arts and creative ecosystem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting on\nthe success of DenPasar2020: ReGeneration in providing free mentorship to eight\nBali based emerging writers to participate in workshops that focus upon writing\nand reviewing creative, artistic and cultural activities, as well as public\nwebinars in arts management, this year DPS forges ahead with the same spirit of\nsharing and learning with the format of an intensive curator residency program\nto empower emerging young curators of Bali and Eastern Indonesia. The focus on\nBali and Eastern Indonesia region is a deliberate effort to highlight the\nimportance of unique and relevant perspectives deeply rooted in local wisdom\nand culture, moving away from the conventional formal curatorial education in\nart institutions mostly found in Java.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DPS 2021 is\nthemed \u201cRising SEA\u201d acknowledging Indonesia as a country made up of many\nislands connected by sea whose people are striving to rise, at the same time\nemphasizing rising sea levels and other shared environmental issues that need\nto be urgently recognised and resolved together by all of us as global\ncitizens.&nbsp; Following through with the\ntheme of \u2018Rising SEA\u2019, DPS 2021 embraces Bali\u2019s neighbouring islands to form\nconnections with respective creative communities and invite active communities\nto nominate potential participants to be part of DenPasar2021: Rising SEA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responding to\nthe ongoing pandemic situation, DPS 2021 is being held entirely online for a\nperiod of 3-months from 17<sup>th<\/sup> September to 17<sup>th<\/sup> December\n2021 with weekly classes, workshops and mentorship by Indonesia\u2019s leading\nmultidisciplinary artists, curators, art practitioners, researchers,\nanthropologists and academics who are prominent in their areas of expertise,\nunderstanding the local context of Bali and Eastern Indonesia regions, while\nhaving global perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition,\nthis program will also be completed with virtual studio visits and community presentations\nof established artists and creative communities based in Bali and Eastern\nIndonesia who will be sharing their experiences in artistic practices and journeys\non building community based organisations that are relevant to their respective\nplaces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a tailored\ncurriculum curated based on DPS 2021 participants\u2019 area of concerns within\ntheir local context, many of the online classes at DenPasar2021: Rising SEA\nwill be open to the public for wider community participation, further\nhighlighting the spirit of sharing and learning together in DenPasar Art+Design\nprogram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DenPasar2021:\nRising SEA aims to open new insights for prospective cultural arts practitioners\nin Bali and Eastern Indonesia, so that in the future they will become\neducational agents in their respective regions, by developing a curatorial\nunderstanding of arts with their unique perspectives and strong local contexts.\nWith this in mind, DenPasar2021: Rising SEA is designed to foster an inclusive\narts and creative ecosystem based on \u2018Gotong Royong\u2019 spirit that is uniquely\nIndonesia, thus creating local-based cultural resilience with a global\nperspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"speaker\"><strong>SPEAKER<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>A series of online\nintensive classes, studios visits, and community presentations conducted across\na period of 3-month will cover a wide area of topics from art curatorial\ndefinition and practices across Indonesia, Indonesia\u2019s art history and context,\nfine arts and contemporary arts in Indonesia, performing arts review and\ncritics, formal and informal art education, and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> DenPasar2021: Rising SEA was formally opened by Hilmar Farid, the Director General  of Culture, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of Republic Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mentors and\nspeakers consist of Indonesia\u2019s leading artists, art practitioners, curators,\nacademics, anthropologists and researchers, including FX Harsono (JOG\/JKT), Asmudjo\nJono Irianto (Bandung), Farah Wardani (JKT), Bianca Winataputri (Melbourne),\nMade Susanta (Bali), Galeri Nasional (JKT), Manshur Zikri (JOG), I Ngurah\nSuryawan (Bali), I Wayan Seriyoga Parta (Bali), Enrico Kondologit (Papua), and\nWulan Dirgantoro (Melbourne).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Studio visits\nand community presentations by Made Bayak (Bali), Mangku Muriati (Bali), Forum\nSudut Pandang (Palu), Komunitas Pasir Putih (Lombok), and Jatiwangi Art Factory\n(Jatiwangi).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Workshops facilitated by Agung Hujatnika (JKT) and Vicky Rosalina (JKT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DenPasar2021: Rising SEA Opening<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Building an Inclusive Arts Ecosystem\nin Indonesia by Hilmar Farid (Director General of Culture, Ministry of\nEducation, Culture, Research and Technology Rupublic of Indonesia) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pembukaan DenPasar 2021: Rising SEA\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sQp3uV4w7Io?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; In between his time as a media &amp; communication staff at a local NGO, he continues to develop his photography skills by involving himself as a volunteer at Sekolah Musa. He is also one of the curators for Merekam Kota. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Awaluddin Ahmad (Gorontalo, Sulawesi)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Awaluddin Ahmad is an experienced artist who participated in many exhibitions since 2012 in Java (Jogjakarta, Batu), Bali (Ubud) and Sulawesi (Gorontalo). Besides being an artist, Awaluddin is an active member in Tupalo community, engaging with his local community through art. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Christyn Piorin Salima Wulogening (Larantuka, NTT)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The head of the\nmedia and publication division at the SimpoSio Institute community, Christyn is\ninterested in arts and multimedia. Recently graduated from Bhayangkara&nbsp; University of Surabaya in communication\nstudies, Christyn is currently working on narrative videos of SimpaSio\nInstitute community projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eka Putra Nggalu (Maumere, NTT)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the initiators\nof the KAHE community in Maumere, Eka Putra Nggalu is actively conducting\nresearch, art creation, and the creation of artistic encounters in the form of\nart forums\/platforms in several disciplines, especially theatre, literature and\nfine arts within his KAHE community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kadek Wiradinata (Bali)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Universitas Pendidikan\nGanesha student majoring in Fine Arts Education. He is\nvery interested in learning various things including writing and curating.\nCurrently learning to write art reviews, Kadek also has experienced\nparticipating in many exhibition activities in Bali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ni Putu Sridiniari (Bali)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently based\nin Yogyakarta to continue her studies for master program in Cultural Studies at\nSanata Dharma University, Putu Sridiniari is inspired by issues of women, the\nenvironment and interested in the studies of fluidity of identity and geopolitical\naspects that shape the context of post-colonial society. She enjoys learning\nand growing through art and activism with friends in Futuwonder Collective. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ni Wayan Penawati (Bali)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A painter and master\ndegree student of ISI Denpasar majoring in Art Studies who had won various\nawards in painting, drawing, mural at the district and provincial levels, Wayan\nPenawati is interested in issues surrounding spatial and event making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ni Wayan Satiani Pradnya Paramita (Bali)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An alumnus of the Fine Arts Study Program ISI Denpasar (2015-2019) and is currently a master degree student of Fine Arts at the Universitas Negeri Malang and a teacher. She has a background in painting and has her concerns around the topic of art education in Indonesia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ramses Puhili (Papua)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn\nanthropologist who comes from a family of artists, Ramses is also an observer\nof Sentani culture who is often involved in research and cultural arts\nactivities in Jayapura district. He is currently working at Museum Loka Budaya\nUniversitas Cenderawasih.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Remzky F. Nikijuluw (Ambon, Maluku)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn\nartist and member of Paparisa Ambon Bergerak, Remzky is also an active member\nof Bengkel Sastra Maluku who is involved in theatre and poetry, amongst others.\nHis concerns include the lack of literacy and racism commonly found in his\ncommunity. \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Theizard Saiya (Ambon, Maluku)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently\nworking as a graphic recorder in collaboration with an environmental foundation\nthat focuses on environmental issues in Maluku and Papua, Theizard is an artist\nwho has worked in various art practices and a teacher of fine arts in the 3T\narea. Until now, he is actively involved in the creative youth community \u2018Paparisa\nAmbon Bergerak\u2019 and is currently building his own painting studio and art\nspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wicitra Pradnyaratih (Bali)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduated with a Bachelor of Digital Design from Swinburne University of Technology Melbourne, Australia, Wicitra Pradnyaratih also known as Acit has an interest in the practice of art and design. Currently, she works as a graphic designer and illustrator. She has created multimedia works at several art events in Bali. In 2020, Acit co-organized a creative event in Bali, with the aim of empowering women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zefriyandi Ali (Gorontalo)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently registered as a student of art education at the State University of Gorontalo. Active in the committee for exhibition events, one of which is the Arcademia Eduart Award 2020. He is also actively involved in art programs at the community, university and provincial levels. Experienced several times in participating in mural competitions and winning university level comic strip competitions and photography competitions in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guest\nparticipants from Indonesiana:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Asro Suardi (Padang\nPanjang, Sumatera Barat)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently\nstudying as a student at UPBJJ Padang Open University in sociology study\nprogram. Previously he had graduated from UPBJJ Padang Open University in\nCommunication Science study program in 2018 and Indonesian Institute of Arts\nPadang Panjang in Pure Arts study program in 2011 &#8211; 2012. He has had numerous\nof experience organizing as members, production teams, moderators and artistic\ndirectors of exhibitions at various events, one of which is as artistic\ndirector of exhibitions in the projects &#8220;DUA-GUNUNG #1&#8221; and\n&#8220;DUA-GUNUNG #2&#8221; conducted by the RUANGWARGA community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Haris Zulfikar\n(Brebes, Jawa Tengah)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Haris Zulfikar is a Karawang-born teacher and\nartist who is currently active as a lecturer at SMAN 1 Paguyangan and as\nchairman of Sanggar Suwung Foundation. Graduate of USTY&#8217;s fine arts and crafts\nprogram, Haris also had a variety of artistic experience. In 2020, he was a\nspeaker of installation and exhibition art workshops with PSLN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kurniasih Zaitun\n(Padang Panjang, Sumatera Barat)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kurniasih Zaitun is\ncurrently domiciled in the city of Padang Panjang, West Sumatra. Tintun, his\nnickname, is one of the theater arts workers in West Sumatra. Since 2004, he\nhas been actively directing a number of theaters from his own work and other\npeople&#8217;s scripts. In addition, Kurniasih Zaitun is also active as an actor and\npoetry reader from 1997 to the present. Experienced as a production\nleader\/manager of theater, film, music and dance performance programs at home\nand abroad (Thailand, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines to France), he is\nalso experienced being a speaker at a number of trainings and symposiums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M Rizky Kadafi\n(Lampung, Sumatera Selatan)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M Rizky Kadafi studied Bachelor of Design at Telkom University and\nMaster of Arts at The Indonesian Institute of Arts Yogyakarta and built the\nfoundation of art and design knowledge in the Visual Communication Design\nProgram of IIB Darmajaya. Focusing on the scientific field of Photography,\nAdvertising, Stage Design, Rizky is active in several national art exhibitions\nas curators and art workers.
