Later on becoming one of the world\u2019s top touristic destinations, Bali\u2019s identity has become inseparable from its openness to the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Artist Designer In Residence programme (ADIR) was conceived with the belief that creativity is nurtured and enriched by the meeting of different cultures, people of all horizons and different worldviews. The residency aims at bringing together the quality and originality of the \u201cFrench touch\u201d and Bali\u2019s unique and rich craft traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>French designers will be invited to immerse themselves into Bali\u2019s unique culture for one month while discovering the island\u2019s natural materials and traditional techniques in a direct dialogue with Balinese artisans. Based on their experimentations and interpretations, the designers will create a collection of objects as a sensitive response to this unique experience. The collection will be produced as a collaboration between the designers and CushCush Gallery and will be presented at various design fairs and events in Indonesia and France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The residency will be punctuated by a series of presentations, discussions and workshops to provide an opportunity for the designer to directly engage with the local creative communities and the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a culmination of the residency, the designers will give a presentation about their Balinese journey and creative process in conceptualizing their collection. Royal College of Arts in London, Marta Bakowski has long been fascinated by crafts and folk arts, which are strongly embedded in h<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">er multidisciplinary approach to design.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her trademark bold and graphic style makes strong use of colors and textures, bringing forth an expressive and playful quality as well as a meaningful storytelling to her creations.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strongly inspired by her travels and encounters with other cultures, she believes in the necessity to anchor design in a context, which in turn strongly impacts her creative response.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a strong interest in research and several international collaborations such as International Design Expeditions under her belt, she considers herself as a student pushing possibilities beyond, enriching her work through exploration of materiality and new creative human relationships.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>ADIR 2022 Press Kit&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more&nbsp; As regulations related to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic put in place by the Indonesian government may change, additional requirements may apply for the successful candidate.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Can duos\/collectives of designers apply to the residency?<\/strong><br><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Duos and collectives are welcome to apply under the condition that the additional person(s) bear all costs related to the residency, as the residency will only cover costs for one person only. Will I get paid for the residency?<\/strong><br><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The designer in residence will benefit from a total sum of 2800 Euros covering the artist\u2019s fee, food and sundry expenses for the total duration of the residency in Bali and roadshow, including after-residency period for the complete development of a collection and the designer\u2019s participation in the 2023 Paris Design Week (Maison et Objet) trade fair.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>7. How well do I need to speak English to apply for the residency?<\/strong><br><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The candidate must be sufficiently proficient in English to be able to interact daily with the local community and to discuss his work with an English-speaking audience.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8.
