Lamak cabinet, 2023. Marta Bakowski x CushCush
A gorgeous tableau celebrating the abundance of life in Bali to welcome the new year! CushCush crafted “Fragments”, a collection of three playful cabinets created by French designer Marta Bakowski as part of CCG’s Artist Designer In Residence program (ADIR).
Greatly inspired by the Balinese everyday life, strong spirituality and rich traditional crafts, Marta Bakowski brought to life her impressions and most memorable moments of her experience on the Island of the Gods in a playful and colorful collection.
Marta reinterpreted the lamak, Balinese traditional ceremonial hangings, in a contemporary way while paying homage to Balinese savoir-faire. A celebration of prosperity and abundance, this stunning piece is the fruit of a real collaboration between designer and artisans. A gorgeous frieze of flowers carved by the expert hands of master mask maker Cokorda Raka Sedana delicately frame this rich tableau of local fauna and flora made of an intricate marquetry of dyed lontar leaves. Delightful birds seem to spring to life, flying in a beautiful sky of natural teak wood.
