ABOUT
CCG in collaboration with the Japan Foundation Office in Jakarta and CushCush Bali present the first edition of the Colors of Japan programme, “Colors Everywhere”.
Conceived in continuation of the ADIR programme with the belief that creativity is nurtured and enriched by the meeting of different cultures, Colors of Japan continues the journey started with Colors of Bali, invites Japanese master artists/artisans whose work explores the world of natural dyes for a short immersive residency in Bali. Colors of Japan aims at developing a creative dialogue through the prism of natural colors between Japanese and Balinese artists/artisans. Through the residency the invited artists get to discover Bali’s rich artisanal crafts and culture and encounter Balinese master artisans working with natural dyes and pigments. In return the residents showcase their work as part of an exhibition and share about their knowledge and know-how with the local creative communities through a series of presentations, discussions and workshops.
Colors of Japan’s first edition, “Colors Everywhere”, welcomes master textile dyer Sarasa Yoshioka as resident. Art researcher Takahiro Kaneshima is collaborating with CCG as co-curator of the eponymous exhibition introducing Ms. Yoshioka’s delicate work, while highlighting the cultural significance of colors and their ability to transcend borders to connect different cultures and peoples.
As part of her residency, Ms. Yoshioka will visit Balinese master textile and natural dyeing artisans in their home studios in Tenganan, Sidemen and Batuan to learn more in depth about their unique know-how and techniques.
As part of Colors Everywhere’s public programme, she will share her knowledge and demonstrate her skills as part of a workshop for Balinese artisans and will take part in a curatorial talk led by Mr. Kaneshima to delve further into her work and the world of Japanese natural colors.
Colors of Japan program is initiated by CushCush Gallery, and co-organized with Japan Foundation Jakarta
