ABOUT
One major aspect of Japanese culture is the depth of love for dolls or Ningyō. Throughout history, dolls could be found in many facets of daily life, both life in the Japanese imperial court and that of the common people. To promote and introduce Japanese culture to the global community, The Japan Foundation, Jakarta presenting “NINGYŌ: Art and Beauty of Japanese dolls” exhibition in several city in Indonesia.
“NINGYŌ: Art and Beauty of Japanese dolls” showcase 67 works of traditional and modern Japanese dolls, complete and with history, function and distribution in Japanese society. After being held in Jakarta and Surabaya, the collection is being exhibited in CushCush Gallery from 30 September to 15 October 2023.
This exhibition presents various types of Japanese dolls through four sections : “Ningyō to pray for children’s growth,” “Ningyō as fine art,” “Ningyō as folk art,” and “Spread of Ningyō culture.”
“NINGYŌ: Art and Beauty of Japanese dolls” exhibition in Indonesia also held to celebrates 65 years of Indonesia-Japan diplomatic relations and celebrate diversity and cultural interaction that hopefully can inspire people by the arts and craftsmanship presented, as well as the unique stories behind each of the dolls.
